T5 Here We Come

3 April, 2008

Our 2 week holiday in Thailand and Hong Kong starts tomorrow. And just to make things more interesting, we’re flying down from Glasgow to Heathrow’s new Terminal 5 with BA.

Things went badly wrong at T5 last week when it first opened to the public. What a shambles. Umpteen BA flights cancelled on the first few days and over 28,000 bags going astray.

When I was booking the flights back in January, I knew that if we stuck with BA, we would be flying out a week after the opening of T5. I did expect some teething problems and difficulties with staff finding their way through the new systems for the first few days. But you would have thought a big company like BA would have done better. They had plenty of time to prepare. Their managers and consultants are clever people who are very well paid. Missions critical issues like staff car parking, staff logins and the backage system should have been 100% prepared for.

What a bunch of idots. Heads should roll. In fact I think one manager has had the chop and she’s ended up in Arbroath.

Keep an eye on the blog for updates from T5 and the Far East.

Good luck John getting through T5. I go through there in a couple of months time so I’m hoping it will be OK by then at least!
Thailand is great – Bangkok’s a particularly busy but exciting city so you will enjoy it – got to ride a Tuk Tuk – mental drivers but a good laugh. Very hot and humid too.
    Have a good one.
P.S. I think punishing someone by sending them to Arbroath is just a bit too severe.
