Faineance

I was running quite a bit late in surgery today due to a few patients actually having proper medical problems which needed treatment. I called in Mr Idle and apologised for keeping him waiting. I asked what I could do for him. He quite predictably said that his 6 month ‘panel line’ was up and he needed another one for the ‘brew’.

It was another case of a 30-something  year old man who had never worked, will never work and had no intention of ever working.

I looked at the records and the reasons for his incapacity. Nervous disability- because just thinking about paid employment make him anxious.

I was running over 30 minutes late and so didn’t need a long protracted discussion about the benefits of work, structure to his day, self confidence, getting out of the house, socialising with colleagues, etc.

Nervous disability was too much of a cop out and so I gave him a line for 6 months and put down ‘Faineance’ as the reason.

Another happy customer. Now I was running just 20 minutes late…

Prof. Rajendra (Raj) Persaud (born 13 May 1963 of Caribbean parents in Reading, Berkshire) is a British consultant psychiatrist, broadcaster, and author of popular books about psychiatry. He is well known for raising public awareness of psychiatric and mental health issues, and psychotropic drug treatments in the general media

Psychiatrist and broadcaster Dr Raj Persaud has admitted plagiarising material for a book and articles published under his name.

Dr Persaud, who practises in south London, is appearing before a General Medical Council hearing in Manchester.

The former Radio 4 presenter admitted plagiarising four articles for his 2003 book From the Edge Of The Couch.

But he denied that his actions were dishonest and were liable to bring his profession into disrepute.
